• Family History: Next Year Country, 1980, Scotsguard, , Saskatchewan, Canada. 33 Lars (Louis) Johnson
by Leslie Johnson
Lars Tycho Johnson was born in Sweden, in 1880. He immigrated to the United States in 1909 or 1910. He decided to come to Canada and did so around 1912, homesteading the S.E. ¼ 1-10-17. My mother, the former Anna Munson, came to the United States around 1909 also, with her brother, Alfred. She, too, was born in Sweden in 1880. Mom worked for several years in the old Clarendon Hotel in Gull Lake. They met at Gull Lake, when Dad was there for supplies, and were married in 1916. They took up residence on Dad's homestead, northwest of Scotsguard. They had three children born to their marriage; Leslie, June and Anne.
Leslie continued to farm and live on the family farm until he moved to Scotsguard in 1952, and then he farmed from town. He has twin daughters. Christel and Colette.
June was married to Lloyd McBurney and passed away when her twin boys, Lloyd and Lynn, were just two weeks old. June was 22 years old.
Anne married Ted Crawford and had two children: David and Violet. Ted passed away several years ago, leaving Anne a widow. Anne is head housekeeper in the University Hospital in Saskatoon, and has been there for 15 years.
Dad decided that Sweden was much better, so in 1920 or 1921, he packed up his family and off we went for Sweden. He sold his farm to Hugh McMillan. To ensure he didn't lose June and me, who were lively youngsters, he tied us together and led us around. Anne was just a baby, so she was carried. We only stayed there a year and Dad decided that Saskatchewan was better so we came back to the Austinville district, Dad renting land from Peter Youngstrom and later buying it. This was the S. E. ¼ 2-10-17, and has been carried on as the family farm since then.
Dad was one of the first ones to join the Pool and belonged to a Lodge in Scotsguard. He was a director on the Telephone Company for a while. Mom passed away in 1944 and Dad followed her in 1955. They are both buried in the Lutheran Cemetery at Scotsguard.
