George Pettypiece is described as being a brother-in-law to Mrs. Rober t Pettypiece on page 287 of the book, The Mere Living, by Hazel McDona ld Parkinson.

In 1897, George Pettypiece was appointed the health officer of Camero n Municipality. He was also a teacher in Hartney School. (page 128, T he Mere Living).

By 1896, a flour milling business had just been established in the tow n of Hartney. Hammond and Leckie, owners of the business, hired an eng ineer for the mill, Dexter Lewers. He was a brother-in-law of David L eckie, and brought his widowed mother, three sisters, and younger brot her to reside in the Joe Young house. His sister, Omee, became the wi fe of George Pettypiece, who owned the Hartney Hardware, before movin g west to Vancouver, B.C. Omee was an accomplished pianist, and gave p iano lessons.
