Thomas Manning was the second son of Wm. and Mary Jane Manning. He cam e with his pioneer parents at the age of 11 from Londesboro, Ont. to t he present Londesboro district of Pilot Mound. In 1893 he married Mat ilda McLean who was also a member of a pioneer family coming to Londes boro district, Pilot Mound from Huron County, Ont. with her parents Sa m and Sarah McLean. After their marriage they farmed in the Gowancrof t district where their first daughter, Edith was born. She married Fre d Arnold in 1919 and lived in Baldur for a number of years where the y raised their family of three, Dorothy, Frank and Olive. Later they m oved to Virden where her husband passed away in 1955. Edith now reside s in Nelson, B. C. Mr. and Mrs. Manning later moved to Manitou where T om worked with Mr. Tovey in the dray business. He later started a rest aurant. While in Manitou two daughters were born, Olive and Gladys. Ol ive married Walter Frith in 1929 and farmed in the Mountain district , La Riviere. Here they raised twin daughters, Kay and Fay. After th e death of her husband in 1947 Olive moved to Manitou where she now re sides. Gladys married Clifford Hagyard in 1927 and farmed in the Londe sboro district where they raised two sons. Elswood, who is still on th e home farm and George. Gladys now makes her home in Pilot Mound. Clif ford passed away in 1959. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Au drey in 1931. In 1907 the Mannings once more returned to the Gowancrof t district to take up farming. Here two more daughters were born, Edn a and Evelyn. Edna married Wm. Hutchinson in 1933 and lived in Vancouv er for many years, here they raised their daughter, Marilyn. Edna an d Wm. now live in Cranbrook, B. C. Evelyn married Erwin Frith in 193 5 and farmed in the Mountain district where their son Ralph was born a nd raised. After her husband's death in 1966 Evelyn moved to Pilot Mou nd to make her home. In 1919 the Mannings moved to their farm in the L ondesboro district until Tom's health failed. In 1925 they retired t o live in Pilot Mound. Mr. Manning passed away in 1943 and Mrs. Mannin g in 1953.
