bullet  Research Notes:

Lon & his bro. Alex kept a store at Bell's Corners for many years where Lon was postmaster (the 2nd in the history of that P. 0.). He was Secretary of the Agricultural Society (Richmond Fair) for several years. In 1907 he accepted the position of Clerk-Treasurer for Nepean Twp. In 1912 he was appointed Governor of Carleton County goal; a position he held until he retired in 1940. He was a lacrosse player as a young man and both Lon & Inie were keen curlers, first with the Glebe Club and when it closed during WWI they joined the Ottawa Club. Lon collapsed and died during a curling bonspiel. Before marriage Inie spent part of a year in a dress-making establishment in Ottawa. This skill she used in dressing Kay for many years. She was, what one man termed a superb natural cook, a talent appreciated by family and friends. In later life Inie became a keen reader and a cross-word puzzle addict. About 1919 the Dawsons, Cliff Moodie, the Coxes and Max Runge bought war surplus tents and began camping on Keddie' Island at Fitzroy Harbor on the Ottawa River. The Moodies and Runges were the first to obtain lots and build cottages (1922). Shortly afterwards Alex Dawson built a building 12'x24' for storage purposes. This became the main room of the cottage with bedroom wings and other additions later. The cottage became a retreat enjoyed by all.
