Edythe Ethelwyn (Wyn) Bell was born in West Wawanosh Township to Willi am and Bertha (Manning) Marsh. An only child, she grew up on the famil y farm in Colborne Township east of Carlow and attended SS3 Colborne e lementary school for her early education. Later she attended the Clint on School of Commerce where she earned her secretarial diploma in 1931 . One of her first josbs was working for the local member of the legis lative assembly in Toronto. She returned to help out on the farm and s hortly afterwards Met Melvin Bell. They were married in Goderich on Ju ne 8, 1935. For the remainder of her life, with the exception of a per iod in the late 1930's, she made Goderich her home where she and Mel r aisded their Chidlren, Norman and Nancy. At a time when many women did n't work outside the home, Wyn was secretary to a number of school ins pectors and superintendents for more than 30 years before retiring i n 1979, a year after the death of her husband. She loved to travel an d following her retirement visited numerous countries on five continen ts, some more than once. She was involved in the MacKay Centre for Sen iors, the Hospital Auxiliary, and the WMS at Knox Presbyterian Church . She was known ofr her vitality and enthusiasm for life which she dem onstrated with her daily walks and her involvement in the community. S he was fiercely independent and prided herself on her ability to liv e on her own for as long as she was able. She deeply loved her childre n and their shpouses, her grandchildren and her great-granddaughter. W yn truly will be missed by her family and friends
