bullet  General Notes:

The following was submitted by Harry and Catherine McBurney to the publication "Botany District The First 100 Years":

In 1922-23, Walter McBurney (Joseph McBurney's brother), farmed the Alex Woods farm, 15-7-22. I n 1924 Joseph McBurney and sons Harry and Melville rented the farm from A.L. Young. In 1925 Earl McBurney rented the farm for a year. Harry rented the farm in 1926 and batched there until February 1927, when he married Catherine Davidson of Souris. While there they had two daughters born to them - Elva Catherine, born 1928, and Marjorie Edith, born 1934. Elva married Russell Morden of Hartney and they have three daughters, Doreen, Donna and Rhonda. Marjorie married Ron Flewelling and they have two children, Todd and Jill; they live in Red Deer, Alberta.
In 1935, owing to a shortage of water for stock, Harry and Catherine moved to the Breezelawn District. When the farmland 7-7-21 in the Botany District, owned by Bert Scott, became available in 1936 (Fred Waterman had been living there), they rented it and moved there. By 1944 they were in a position to buy it. Their children went to the Botany School which was just a mile away. In 1937 their son, Murray Edward, was born. When he grew up, he and his Dad farmed together. Harry was very fond of his horses and took great care of them.
In 1956 Murray married Lorna McFarlane of Souris. He rented the farm owned by Cliff Roper and worked it from 1967 to 1971. On December 6, 1972, Murray died accidentally at the age of 35. His plane crashed near Camperville while hunting with his cousin Bob McBurney and friend Jack Morris. Left to mourn his passing were his wife Lorna and their four children - daughter Sherran 15, sons Dale 14, Scott 10, and Blaine 8, also his parents and two sisters Elva and Marjorie.
In March 1972 Harry and Catherine bought Mrs. Howard Brown's house and moved to Souris. They still loved country life and helped out at the farm when needed. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1977 and their 60th in February 1987. Harry passed away April 22, 1987.

From Kim Mills:

Harry was very fond of horses, and took great time and care with them. 2,48
